Area of general research interest:

Cell-matrix interactions in the repair of connective tissues, particularly knee joint cartilage and meniscus.

Current program:

  • Characterization of the meniscus fibrochondrocyte, a cell that can efficiently repair its matrix
  • The role of the pericellular matrix in maintenance of tissue homeostrasis
  • Definition of the cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in the degeneration of cartilage in hemorrhage and iron overload into joints
  • The role of isoforms of type VI collagen, a cell-matrix bridging protein, in repair of connective tissue

Investigators:

  • McDevitt, Cahir A., M.Phil., Ph.D.
  • Chakrabarti, Amitabha, Ph.D.
  • Klika, Alison K., M.S.
  • Johnson, Cory L., B.S.
  • Feeback, Kevin, B.S.
