Science Intern Program for High School Students

Lerner Research Institute David and Lindsay Morgenthaler Endowed Fellowship

General Information for Applicants:

Exceptional senior Graduate Students and Postdoctoral Fellows are invited to apply for the David and Lindsay Morgenthaler Endowed Fellowship to conduct research in Cleveland Clinic's Lerner Research Institute (LRI). The David and Lindsay Morgenthaler Endowed Fellowship will provide up to 3 years of support with a stipend salary of a minimum of $50,000 per year and excellent fringe benefits. All applicants must be external candidates who have no current or previous graduate student or postdoctoral fellow appointment with Cleveland Clinic.

Selection critera for successful candidates will include the following:

  • Graduate Student applicants must expect to receive their Ph.D. within the next 6 months
  • Postdoctoral candidates must have LESS than 5 years of research experience after receiving their Ph.D. and/or M.D.
  • Outstanding laboratory training
  • Publication record
  • Scientific merit of previous work

All LRI principal investigators are potential mentors for Morgenthaler Fellows. LRI Mentor preferences and research interests can be determined by reviewing individual research programs by LRI Departments.

Qualified candidates must submit:

  • A cover letter that must contain a statement that the applicant is applying for the David and Lindsay Morgenthaler Endowed Fellowship
  • A complete and current curriculum vitae
  • A list of 3 references with complete contact information (e-mail, phone number and address), including Ph.D. thesis advisor or M.D. program director
  • A list of at least 6 LRI Mentor preferences (complete name and department)

Please rank the applicant in each of the 6 areas indicated below using the 1 through 5 scale provided. In addition, we would like your candid assessment of the applicant with written comments. Please indicate your relationship to the applicant and how long you have worked with the applicant. Alternatively, letters of reference addressing the qualities below will be accepted. Please send all reference materials with complete contact information to REO@ccf.org by May 15.

(1) - Exceptional: Equal to the very best in the current peer group
(2) - Outstanding: In the top 10% of the current peer group
(3) - Very Strong: In the top 25% of the current peer group
(4) - Above Average: In the top 55% of the current peer group
(5) - Average or Below: In comparison to the current peer group
