Brian Perkins, PhD, recently joined Ophthalmic Research in the Cole Eye Institute. Dr. Perkins comes to LRI from Texas A&M University, where he was an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology. He received a PhD in Biochemistry from Baylor College of Medicine and went on to complete a postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at Harvard University. Dr. Perkins uses a zebrafish animal model to understand the role of cilia assembly and transport in the development of the vertebrate retina and aims to uncover molecular mechanisms leading to photoreceptor degeneration and hereditary blindness.
Ji-Feng Chen, former Manager of the Institute’s Polymer Core, received a life-saving treatment at Lakewood Hospital. His story is featured in Health Essentials, a Cleveland Clinic community hospital publication.
