Recent Grants

Six Institute researchers recently received grants totaling more than $18.8 million. They are:

Jay Alberts, PhD, Biomedical Engineering, was awarded $1.4 million over 4 years for “Comparison of Unilateral and Bilateral Subthalamic Stimulation in Parkinson’s disease patients” (R01). Funded by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke/NIH.

Andrea Ladd, PhD, Cell Biology, was awarded $1.7 million over 5 years for “Roles of Pre-mRNA Alternative Splicing Programs in Heart Development.” The first 2 years of the grant will be funded by monies distributed from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act via the NIH and the next 3 years from the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute/NIH.

Cameron McIntyre, PhD, Biomedical Engineering, was awarded $1.7 million over 5 years for “Systems-Level Model of Deep Brain Stimulation” (R01). Funded by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke/NIH.

George Stark, PhD, Molecular Genetics, was awarded $1.1 million over 4 years for “Activators and Repressors of NFkappaB and IRF3/7 in Innate Immunity” (R01). Funded by the National Cancer Institute/NIH.

Vincent Tuohy, PhD, Immunology, was awarded $1.3 million over 4 years for “Autoimmune Induced Breast Failure as a Strategy for Breast Cancer Vaccination” to continue to develop/test in female mice a vaccine against breast cancer. The first 2 years of the grant will be funded by monies distributed from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act via the NIH and the second 2 years from the National Cancer Institute/NIH.

Roy Silverstein, MD, Chair, Cell Biology, was awarded $11.6 million over 5 years for “Oxidized Phospholipids in Vascular Pathobiology” (P01). Funded by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute/NIH.
