CEM Liberty Blue Microwave Peptide Synthesizer

Peptide synthesis is carried out from 25 - 2.5 µmole scales on a microwave based synthesizer from CEM Inc. Multiple antigen peptide (MAP) synthesis for antibody generation is also available in the Core. The quality of synthetic peptides is routinely confirmed by HPLC analysis and mass analysis by MALDI-TOF-TOF. Various modifications performed are as follows:

  • Biotinylations
  • Phospho Peptides
  • Fluorochrome conjugations, such as fluorescein, Rhodamine, Biotin, etc
  • Cyclic Peptides
  • 15N & 13C Peptides
  • Incorporation of non-protein amino acids, D-amino acids and nitro-AA, methyl-lysine and azido group

Biacore can be used for measuring the binding constants of macromolecular interactions (protein-protein, nucleic acids - protein, protein-ligand etc) and in many other applications such as, epitope mapping, ranking antibody affinities, concentration measurements, characterization of mutant proteins and Ligand fishing.

J-815-CD-Spectropolarimeter

A Circular Dichroisms (CD) Spectropolarimeter (Model J-815 from Jasco) is a type of light absorption spectroscopy that can provide information on the structures of optically active biological macromolecules. CD spectra of proteins between 250 and 185 nm can be analyzed for different secondary structural types such as, alpha helix, parallel and antiparallel beta sheet, turn and other random structures.

Storm 820 Phosphorimager

The Storm system is an optical scanner that produces digital images of radioactive or fluorescently labeled samples. The Storm 820 Phosphorimager is used only to scan a phosphor screen that has been exposed with a radioactive sample. Users will need to provide their own phosphor screen. One can analyze the results of a scan with ImageQuant TL which has been installed on the data acquisition computer. A sign-up log book is available next to the instrument.
