Overview
The Research Intensive Summer Experience (RISE) program is a partnership between Cleveland Clinic Research and John Hay High School. This 8-week program offers paid summer internships for rising JHHS seniors to perform cutting-edge biomedical research in a laboratory. The program exposes students to a professional laboratory setting, teaches them basic laboratory skills and scientific methodology, and challenges them to think like a scientist, creating plans to solve real-world biomedical research questions.

Program Details
- 8-week summer research program for rising 12th grade John Hay High School students
- Research is conducted in laboratories at Cleveland Clinic Research on Cleveland Clinic's Main Campus
- Students are matched to a laboratory and faculty advisor, as well as to a graduate student mentor, based on their individual research interests
- In addition, the RISE program includes:
- Networking events
- Tours of Cleveland Clinic's Main Campus
- Seminars on how to develop a career in science
- Participation in research symposiums
Application
Applications for the summer 2027 Cleveland Clinic Research RISE Program are open. The program will take place from June 14, 2027 to August 6, 2027.
Eligibility:
- Must be 16 years of age
- Must be able to commit to 25 hours per week for the duration of the program (June 14, 2027 – August 6, 2027)
Other eligibility requirements exist; please discuss with John Hay High School.
