Getting Started

We’re here to support your development and career growth. Our Research Education & Training Center and your department administrator will guide you as you begin your postdoctoral fellowship at Lerner. As a sustaining member of the National Postdoc Association, we have the resources and tools available for you to be successful, including a 90 day training plan.

International Trainee Support

Our Research Education & Training Center is here to support you during your transition to the United States through visa support and programming such as the Conversational English Program. Please contact us if you have questions about your status.

Conversational English Program

Our conversational English program pairs international trainees with coaches to improve English skills and learn more about US culture.

Institutional Awards

We offer multiple institutional awards that recognize postdoctoral fellows for their excellence in research, including:

  • Postdoctoral Fellows Awards for Excellence, rewarding first authors of highly-significant articles
  • F. Merlin Bumpus Junior Investigator Award, highlighting excellence in research by graduate students and postdoctoral fellows in both basic and clinical research
  • Lower Award, encouraging original investigation and professional excellence related to scientific papers
  • Tarazi Fellowship Award, recognizing papers that make an outstanding contribution to cardiovascular research
  • Cleveland Clinic Association Alumni Travel Award, providing funds for trainees presenting at nationally recognized scientific meetings

Our Research Education & Training Center provides the opportunity to further develop skills in specialized areas, established by experts in each field. Earn a certificate in one of the following areas over two-years:

LEADERS Seminar Series

The Lerner Experience in Advanced Development of Education and Research Skills (LEADERS) seminar series provides training on a variety of topics to enrich the trainee experience. Past seminars have included:

Extramural Funding

Lerner offers services to help postdoctoral fellows in successfully obtaining extramural funding. Our Office of Research Development can assist with pre-award activities related to finding funding opportunities and for proposal development and editing. Additionally, the office offers grant writing education and training, as well as resources to help with the grant writing process.
