Cleveland Clinic and Miami University are helping students prepare for the workforce by providing a hands-on approach to learning. This summer, students from the university in Oxford, Ohio, are coming up north to Cleveland Clinic’s main campus to learn from our world-renowned researchers and caregivers.  

Cleveland Clinic Research is hosting six interns in Biomedical Engineering, Computational Life Sciences and the Chief Research and Academic Office. Depending on their career interests, the students will either work alongside researchers in the lab or learn from administrative caregivers on the behind-the-scenes operations of a leading academic medical center.  

The program is part of Cleveland Clinic and Miami University’s larger internship program, with a shared goal to support students and train the next generation of healthcare workers. 

“At Cleveland Clinic, we are committed to creating an experience where students can learn skills directly from our caregivers,” says Nicole Fennell, Director, Center for Youth & College Education and Visa & Immigration Services. “By participating in this program, they will gain the mindset and skills to apply to whichever field they choose.” 

Additionally, three Miami University students were selected for the Discovery Accelerator Internship Program. The Discovery Accelerator is Cleveland Clinic and IBM’s 10-year partnership to accelerate research through high-performance computing — including the hybrid cloud, artificial intelligence and quantum computing technologies. This internship opportunity allows students to work alongside Cleveland Clinic’s researchers to learn how advanced computing is shaping biomedical research.

Cleveland Clinic and Miami University are also partnering to create Ohio’s first specialized degree programs and research experiences in quantum computing. The initiative, announced in 2025, aims to advance quantum computing education and position Ohio as a leader in the field.  

• In 2026, Miami University purchased its first space in the Cleveland Innovation District.
• Miami University collaborated with Cleveland Clinic on a Master of Education in Health Professions degree program. 
• Miami University also unveiled the newly named Cleveland Clinic Health Sciences and Wellness facility at its Oxford, Ohio, campus. The 165,000 square-foot facility is home to state-of-the-art clinics, classrooms and simulation labs.
