Research Opportunities

  • five to six month on-site co-operative engineering positions in an international research group
  • development of research skills, leadership and collaboration skills, and technical knowledge
  • opportunity to enroll at local universities as a transient student while working on research project
  • formal seminars on ethics, animal research, regulations, lab safety, grant-writing, research paper writing and project reviews
  • regular participation in research team's group meetings and department seminars as well as attending clinic grand rounds
  • potential to co-author one or more papers in journal style
  • hourly salary while on-site; cash budget for supplies; travel assistance

Eligibility Requirements

  • citizen or permanent resident
  • enrollment in an engineering discipline appropriate to the proposed research project
  • preferred junior status
  • at least one semester remaining after completion of the CCF on-site term
  • grade point average in upper third of class
  • initiative, drive and ability to benefit from the program
  • ability to live in the Cleveland area during the on-site term
  • applications from "teaching-oriented" institutions are highly encouraged

Application Process

  • print out the application form and submit it to us along with:
  • official transcripts for all colleges and universities attended
  • resume
  • two letters of recommendation
  • biographical essay including career goals, scientific background and reasons for applying to the program
  • brief commentary on preferred CCF mentors and project area

Selection Process

  • Applications will be reviewed by participating researchers
  • phone interview will follow
  • finalists will be asked to develop a project outline with the propose CCF mentor
  • final review
  • applications will be continuously reviewed and offers will be extended four times per year
