Matrix Biology Banner

Matrix Biology research forms a network of interactions that permeates through Biomedical Engineering and into many other translational and basic research programs throughout the Cleveland Clinic.  Projects within Biomedical Engineering include investigations of:

1) Connective tissues formed by mesenchymal stem cells during osteogenesis (George Muschler).
2) Hyaluronan-based hydrogels for use in cartilage repair (Anthony Calabro).
3) Bone matrix mineralization models (Ronald Midura).
4) Vascular graft engineering (Linda Graham).
5) Epidermal wound healing (Edward Maytin and Judy Mack)
6) Hyaluronan matrices in diabetic nephropathy models (Aimin Wang)
7) Connective tissue matrix remodeling by metalloproteases (Suneel Apte)
8) Cartilage growth plate biology (Tracey Ballock)
9) Biomechanics and tissue engineering of tendons and ligaments (Kathy Derwin)
10) Repair and regeneration of knee meniscus (Cahir McDevitt)
11) Fibronectin in liver and tendon development (Takao Sakai)
12) Hyaluronan matrices synthesized in response to inflammatory stresses (Vincent Hascall).
