Neural Control
The neural control group performs basic science and clinical research related to neural control of movement. The program focuses mainly at system level of the central nervous system (CNS) as well as the muscular system. Our long-term research interests include understanding CNS plasticity/reorganization as a result of disease and medical intervention, and its relation with functional recovery. Current projects include evaluating effects of deep brain stimulation on lessening symptoms in Parkinson’s disease and the underlying mechanisms using neural-network simulation, and understanding CNS reorganization in stroke and other neurological disorders using neuroimaging and electrophysiological techniques.
