Services & Fees

The Genomic Medicine Biorepository offers the following services to the members of the Genomic Medicine Institute, our collaborators, and members of the Cleveland Clinic family. Those outside of the Cleveland Clinic who may be interested in our services are encouraged to contact us for information.

The protocols we use for many of these services can be found in the Methods section.

DNAicon

DNA Isolation *

(Blood, paraffin-embedded tissue, frozen tissue, cell lines, and others)

This is the mainstay of genomics research and is used for many different investigations.

$37 per isolation (blood, tissue, and cell lines)

$15 per isolation (saliva and buccal swab)

RNAicon

RNA Isolation (from various sources) *

(Blood, cell lines, and others)

This allows for expression research, and combined with rtPCR (cDNA) offers a starting point for micro-array studies.

$32 per isolation

Lymphoblast

Lymphoblastoid Cell Line Initiation *

Initiation of lymphoblastoid cell lines provides a perpetual source of high molecular weight genetic material, and opens the door to in vitro studies that cannot be done with primary cells.

$290 per initiation

Fibroblast

Fibroblast Cell Line Initiation *

Establishment of fibroblast cell lines (primarily from skin biopsies) provides an alternative to lymphoblasts – depending on the needs of the investigator.

$200 per cell line

Protein

Protein Lysate Preparation *

Typically isolated from our lymphoblastoid cell lines (although other sources are possible), protein lysates are useful for protein expression analysis (western blot) and other protein-related experiments.

$42 per isolation

Plasma

Plasma or Serum Collection *

This is a low-cost sample that is banked as a by-product when blood is submitted. This has tremendous potential with the emergence of proteomics as a new and exciting research tool.

$6 per isolation

Urine

Urine Collection *

This is a standard diagnostic resource. As well, it has significant research value.

$12 per collection

Revive

Cell Line Revival, Backfreeze, & Transfer

This process allows us to distribute cell lines that have been placed in cryogenic suspension without depleting potentially irreplaceable resources.

$125 per cell line

Sectioning

Tissue Sectioning *

(Paraffin-embedded tissue or frozen tissue)

This allows us to prepare slides for a wide array of techniques such as staining, immunohistochemistry, laser capture microscopy, and in situ PCR. This also enables us to identify areas of interest for the purposes of DNA or RNA extraction.

$2.35 per slide

Staining

Slide Staining (non-IHC) *

This technique allows the investigator to examine details and structures in thin-sectioned tissue.

$3.45 per slide

IHC

Immunohistochemistry Staining *
(Pre-Optimized)

This powerful staining technique uses antibodies to look at the relative expression and localization of specific proteins in our thin-sectioned tissue. Primary antibodies to be provided by the investigator.

$16 per slide

IHCopt

Immunohistochemistry Optimization

In order for the immunohistochemistry technique to be valid and cost-effective, the staining conditions for each primary antibody must be optimized. Primary antibodies to be provided by the investigator.

$500 per primary antibody

cDNAicon

cDNA Preparation *

Reverse transcription of RNA into cDNA is a convenient way to preserve message information while providing another useful resource to our investigators.

$10 per preparation

WGAicon

Whole-Genome Amplification *

This provides the option to amplify small, or trace, amounts of DNA when the existing amount cannot meet the needs of the investigator.

$10 per sample

Storage

Sample Storage *

This service is reserved for samples prepared by the GMB. These annual fees will be prospectively assessed at the beginning of each calendar year.

$7 per sample (DNA, cDNA, RNA, Protein, Plasma, Serum, or Urine)

$15 per cell line

Transfer

Biomaterial Transfer (other than cell lines or slides)

This service provides the mechanism to get samples to the investigator. This fee covers the administrative costs associated with preparing and documenting sample transfers.

$2 per sample

Data

Database Integration *

This is critical in the management of a modern biorepository – not only for sample management, but also for large-scale investigations involving clinical and research data.
