Frequently Asked Questions
Q. How do I place an order?
A. Orders can be placed through the online C.O.R.E.S. ordering system and can be accessed through the Intranet.
Q. When and where do I pick up my order?
A. Orders received before 4pm are available for pick up the next day between 9:30am-5:00pm in NB1-15 (Located within the Lerner Research Institute). Remember to bring a box or cart for your order.
Q. Can I pick up my order immediately?
A. We ask that you give the Media Core 1 day to fill your order. In the case of an emergency we will give out media same day however in some cases there may be a small fee.
Q. What do we do with our media and solution bottles once they are empty?
A. Please be sure to thoroughly rinse out media bottles, then submerge them in the plastic tubs provided to each lab by the glassware facility. Please recycle plastic bottles.
Q. Are you making custom media or buffers?
A. Yes, please bring your custom requests to us for discussion. We would like to hear any suggestions for additional items that could be added to our list.
Q. What is the price of making a custom media?
A. The price of a custom order depends on many things such as the cost of powders, filter & labor. Therefore the cost varies for every different custom ordered.
Q. Do you provide endotoxin testing?
A. Yes, order forms can be picked up outside the media lab located at NB1-15
Q. Do you have information on media formulations?
A. Yes; Call, email, or stop in and a photocopy of the formulation will be made for you.
Q. Is the Media sterile or sterile filtered?
A. Yes, all Media Lab cell culture products are filtered through pharmaceutical grade double-layer 0.1µm filters from Pall Trincor offering complete retention of mycoplasma and removal of bacteria.
Q. What type of Quality Control is performed on the media from the media core?
A. QC broths to verify no bacteria or yeast growth, Endotoxin and Mycoplasma testing, and Cell Culture verification.
Q. How is my lab being billed?
A. Labs are being billed after their order is picked up. Currently in the C.O.R.E.S. version 2.0 a receipt is being sent to the PIs and ordering Techs after billing is complete, unfortunately this receipt is telling them to pick up their order again. (Sorry for the inconvenience we are trying to get this fixed)
Q. Do we have enough media in inventory?
A. We keep all of our media in stock with the exception of Custom orders and Bulk solutions. Although we have the media in stock, we still ask that you give us 1 day to fill your orders.
