Research

The Sharma Lab's research mission is to lead a collaborative and cross-disciplinary scientific research program to understand the role of DNA repair and telomere biology in heritable disorders with cancer predisposition. 


Biography

Dr. Sharma is Associate Staff in the Department of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplantation at Cleveland Clinic and Associate Professor at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University. Her research focuses on DNA repair and telomere biology in heritable disorders with cancer predisposition, with recent discoveries including gain-of-function mutations in RPA1 and identification of SMARCAL1 as a novel osteosarcoma predisposition gene.

Research

The Sharma Lab investigates how defects in DNA repair and telomere maintenance contribute to genome instability, bone marrow failure, and cancer predisposition. Our work focuses on

  • Cancer Genetics
  • Disease Modeling
  • Germline Genomics

Our ultimate goal is to define molecular pathways that maintain genome stability and translate these insights into improved diagnosis and treatment strategies for patients with heritable cancer predisposition syndromes.
