Glen Taksler’s research aims to translate evidence-based medicine into clear priorities that guide patients, clinicians and health systems toward the interventions most likely to improve length and quality of life. He has developed methods to individualize preventive health care guidelines based on patient-specific risk factors and prioritize preventive services based on their potential to improve longevity.
Currently, Dr. Taksler is Principal Investigator of a study funded by the National Institutes of Health (National Institute on Aging) to help middle-aged adults make an informed decision about the primary preventive services that are most likely to promote a longer, healthier life. He also founded and leads an electronic health records-based registry of more than 1 million primary care patients.
Dr. Taksler’s other work includes analyzing population health, health information technology, and underlying causes of infant mortality. His methods include evidence-based medicine, economic analysis, observational study design using large datasets, and decision analytic and predictive risk modeling.
Dr. Taksler’s research has been funded by the National Institute on Aging, National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences, Clinical and Translational Science Collaborative of Cleveland and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
Glen Taksler is Associate Professor of Medicine at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine; Staff at Cleveland Clinic’s Primary Care Institute and Cleveland Clinic’s Department of Quantitative Health Sciences; and Faculty at the Center for Health Care Research and Policy, Population Health Research Institute at Case Western Reserve University at The MetroHealth System. Dr. Taksler Co-Chairs the Education Committee of the Society for Medical Decision Making and is a member of the Research Committee of the Society of General Internal Medicine.
Dr. Taksler has received national and regional awards, including the Best Overall Design by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) Challenge on Designing the Optimal Future State of CDS Connect (with collaborators at the University of Michigan, 2024); Award for Excellence in Clinical Investigation by the Society of General Internal Medicine Midwest Region (2019); the Most Outstanding Paper by a Young Investigator Award by the Society for Medical Decision Making (2014); and the Milton W. Hamolsky Award for Most Outstanding Junior Faculty Abstract by the Society of General Internal Medicine (2014).
