The Lerner Research Institute's Core Services seek to facilitate and advance research throughout Cleveland Clinic by providing technologies that support basic, translational, and clinical research.
Digital Imaging Microscopy Core
The Imaging Core provides a wide range of high quality microscopes, imaging instruments, and computer workstations. The Core has six Leica DM microscopes equipped with Q-Imaging Retiga EXi cooled CCD cameras and Image ProPlus Capture and Analysis software for transmitted light (i.e., brightfield, phase contrast, differential interference contrast, darkfield) or fluorescence imaging. Four of these are designed for capturing images from fixed specimens on slides (including one equipped with a motorized stage and software for large-field-of-view mosaic tiling imaging). The remaining two microscopes are inverted to be used for short-term observation and imaging of live cells in flasks or culture dishes. A Leica MZ16 FA stereomicroscope is also available (capable of fluorescence, brightfield and darkfield imaging with Retiga EXi camera). Whole slide imaging (including single, double, and jumbo slide sizes) can be done in both brightfield and fluorescence on the Leica SCN400 automated scanner. Laser Capture Microdissection is done using a Leica ASLMD microscope.
