Message from the Chair

Cancer Sciences is an enterprise department that brings together oncology investigators from basic and translational scientists to cancer physicians. The department's goal is to improve patient care through science. Our investigators focus on a wide range of areas, including cancer biology and pathophysiology, immuno-oncology, clinical trials and trial correlates, genomics, and the development of new therapeutics. Cancer Sciences supports precision oncology programs for patients, education, and biotherapeutics manufacturing. In collaboration with oncology-focused investigators across the enterprise, our department maintains a dynamic ecosystem that helps to drive discoveries, innovative trials, and bridges to new standards of care.

Leadership

Our Mission

The Department of Cancer Sciences strives to understand cancer at the molecular and systems levels and translate those insights into better outcomes for patients.

We have several programs focusing on distinct areas — the Women's Cancers Program, the Center for Immunotherapy and Precision Immuno-Oncology, the Tumor Pathophysiology and Evolution Program, the Neuro-Oncology Program, the Immuno-Engineering Program, and the Translational and Correlative Sciences Service. We leverage cutting-edge technologies, multi-omics-based strategies, advanced immune profiling, and many other approaches. Discovery and collaboration are at the heart of our work, with interdisciplinary teams across the global Cleveland Clinic system working together to build mechanistic insight and therapeutic innovation. Our group spans the spectrum of oncology research, and we seek to translate discoveries from the bench to the bedside. Our work bridges the gap between laboratory discovery and patient care, translating cutting-edge molecular and genomic insights into novel diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.

The international footprint of our department allows us to expand our reach and investigate cancer issues in different parts of the world. Cancer Sciences principal investigators are pursuing novel research initiatives and advanced drug discovery across many tumor types.
